How to clean and care for your solid gold jewellery
Solid gold is made to last. That is the beauty of it. But just like your favourite denim or leather, it still deserves a little care along the way.
Everyday care tips
- Put it on last. Jewellery should be the last thing you put on after skincare, perfume, sunscreen, or makeup. These can all affect the finish over time.
- Store it right. When you are not wearing your piece, keep it in a soft pouch or separate box to avoid scratches. Solid gold will not tarnish, but it can still pick up tiny scuffs if left loose in a drawer.
- Take it off sometimes. Gold can handle a lot, but remove it before swimming, the gym, or anything involving chemicals or hard surfaces.
Treat your jewellery like it is part of your story. Because it is. A little care goes a long way.
How to clean solid gold at home
You do not need anything fancy. Just gentle soap and warm water.
- 1 Fill a small bowl with warm water and a few drops of mild dish soap.
- 2 Let your jewellery soak for 5 to 10 minutes.
- 3 Use a soft-bristled toothbrush to gently clean any grooves or texture.
- 4 Rinse with clean water and dry thoroughly with a soft cloth.
Avoid harsh chemicals, toothpaste, or abrasive cloths. These can damage the surface or create micro-scratches over time.
Professional cleaning
If your piece needs a deeper clean or a polish, consider taking it to a jeweller once a year. They can check the setting, tighten any stones, and bring back that just-made shine.
